Mozilla, the organization behind the popular web browser Firefox, recently announced the implementation of a new security feature called “Trusted Types.” This mechanism aims to combat the risk of certain types of web attacks, particularly Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) attacks that are based on the Document Object Model (DOM) and are common on popular web pages.

Trusted Types is an optional mechanism that allows web pages to protect themselves from such attacks by limiting possible attack surfaces through Content Security Policy (CSP) and content filtering mechanisms. When this mechanism is enabled in the Firefox browser, a “TrustedHTML” object is expected instead of a regular text snippet, adding an additional layer of security to existing web pages.

While Firefox will implement Trusted Types, this feature is currently not available to users due to technical issues that are still being resolved. Nevertheless, Mozilla believes in the effectiveness of this mechanism, as it has already shown positive results in the Chromium ecosystem, where the implementation of Trusted Types led to a significant reduction in the frequency of DOM-XSS attacks.

This innovation is part of Firefox’s efforts to join Chrome in reducing the risk of web attacks and contributing to greater security while browsing the internet. The implementation of Trusted Types enhances user security, ensuring a safer web browsing experience.
