The Growing Fascination with AI among Workers in Serbia

Artificial intelligence (AI) has been a hot topic of discussion among employers and job-seekers in Serbia. Recent findings from LinkedIn, a leading job-search platform, reveal a significant increase of 70% in AI-related conversations on the platform over the past year.

Contrary to some opinions, both men and women actively engage in discussions about AI. Men account for 58% of the conversations, while women contribute 31% to the overall dialogue. Millennials lead the way, making up 45% of the discussions, followed by Gen Z (26%) and Gen X (21%). Furthermore, it’s interesting to note that the older generation, baby boomers, seem to show little interest in AI, with only 4% participating in AI conversations. Surprisingly, the professional services industry dominates AI discussions with 29%, surpassing the tech industry (17%) and the education sector (9%).

The impact of AI is not limited to conversations alone. Job-seekers are increasingly drawn to positions that embrace AI. Views for AI and AI-related jobs on LinkedIn have seen a 12% increase across major economies, including Serbia. Furthermore, there has been an 11% growth in applications for jobs that involve AI. Although AI jobs currently represent a small percentage of available opportunities, job listings mentioning AI have experienced a remarkable 17% surge in applications over the past two years.

The demand for AI talent extends across various industries in Serbia. The top five industries seeking AI professionals include professional services, administrative and support services, retail, manufacturing, and technology, information, and media. Significantly, the application of AI in diverse industries opens up new opportunities and has the potential to address existing gender and racial disparities. Embracing AI literacy could enhance knowledge and skills transferability, especially considering that over half of LinkedIn members are projected to experience job changes due to the use of generative AI.

Workers in Serbia are becoming more open to learning and experimenting with AI. According to the report, 40% of men and 34% of women surveyed have already started utilizing AI in their work. The study also suggests that more than half of the population, encompassing 55% of women and 54% of men, will encounter job augmentation or disruption due to the influence of AI.
