New Enhanced Security Measures Implemented at Michigan Capitol

In a move to enhance security at the Michigan Capitol, a state-of-the-art artificial intelligence technology has been introduced to detect the presence of firearms. The innovative system, known as ZeroEyes, analyzes video footage from existing security cameras and provides an additional layer of protection for the state Capitol. The technology works by swiftly alerting the central control center if a weapon is brandished in front of any of the cameras.

“This technology serves as an invaluable asset in our efforts to safeguard the Capitol. With ZeroEyes, we are alerted in real-time to any potential threats, enabling us to take immediate action,” stated Sam Alaimo, co-founder of ZeroEyes.

Once the alert is received at the control center, trained personnel review the marked footage as flagged by the software and issue appropriate warnings. “Subsequently, we notify the client and any designated individuals so that on-site alerts can be promptly delivered,” added Alaimo.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: What is ZeroEyes?
A: ZeroEyes is an artificial intelligence technology that can identify the presence of firearms on security cameras.

Q: How does ZeroEyes work?
A: ZeroEyes analyzes video footage from existing cameras and sends alerts if it detects a weapon.

Q: Why was this technology introduced at the Michigan Capitol?
A: Following incidents where individuals entered the Capitol premises with firearms, this technology provides an additional layer of security.

Q: What happens after a weapon is detected?
A: After a weapon is detected, personnel at the control center review the footage and issue warnings to the client and designated individuals.

With several instances of demonstrators bringing weapons onto the premises, including within legislative chambers, the Michigan Capitol Commission unanimously voted in 2021 to prohibit open carry of firearms within the building. It is important to note that ZeroEyes is uniquely designed to identify firearms only. Even if a firearm were discreetly concealed on the back of a Golden Retriever, the system would still detect it. “The system focuses solely on the presence of firearms, regardless of the carrier,” emphasized Alaimo. Commission members were unavailable for interviews regarding the new technology.

By employing cutting-edge AI technology like ZeroEyes, the Michigan Capitol is actively prioritizing the safety of its occupants and reinforcing its commitment to maintaining a secure environment within its walls.
