New Bing Feature: Deep Search Revolutionizes Online Search

Microsoft is preparing to launch a groundbreaking feature for Bing that aims to streamline the process of generating AI queries. The new feature, called Deep Search, leverages GPT-4 technology to expand your search query on Bing, enabling the search engine to find answers to multiple topics related to your query on the internet.

Unlike traditional search methods, Deep Search transforms vague queries into detailed questions that yield more accurate and comprehensive results. For instance, Microsoft demonstrates how Bing transforms the ambiguous search query “how do scoring systems work in Japan” into a precise inquiry that prompts Bing to:

– Provide an explanation of how different loyalty programs function in Japan, including their benefits, requirements, and limitations. This includes showcasing popular loyalty cards from different categories, such as fast-food chains, supermarkets, and restaurants.
– Compare the advantages and disadvantages of using loyalty cards over other payment methods in Japan, including current rewards and benefits.
– Highlight the most popular services and participants in loyalty programs.

Furthermore, Bing can expand the search to encompass descriptions of immigration policies and public transportation fares, allowing GPT-4 to uncover all possible intentions behind the query.

The suggested topics by Bing will be displayed in a panel on the search results page. Users can then choose the topic that best aligns with their search needs, and Deep Search will organize the search results by “how well they match the comprehensive description.” Microsoft notes that executing a Deep Search may take up to 30 seconds, but users always have the option to utilize the standard search function on Bing if they prefer quicker results.

Although Deep Search is currently an experiment available only to a small group of users, its potential is eagerly anticipated. Finding a suitable query for AI can sometimes be a challenging task in itself, which partially undermines the purpose of using AI for productivity.
