In a groundbreaking reveal at CES 2024, tech company MSI has captured the attention of gaming enthusiasts with its revolutionary portable device – the MSI Claw. This handheld gaming console is powered by the unique Intel Core Ultra processor, making it the world’s first device of its kind. However, this is just the beginning, as MSI plans to launch more Claw devices and maintain its presence in the market well into the future.
According to Cliff Choon, the Director of MSI, in an interview with IGN, the Claw console is only the introduction to the company’s ambitious plans in the field of handheld gaming consoles. Choon promises that future versions will have even more powerful CPU and GPU performance, teasing upgrades that are already in the works. The first Claw console was the result of two years of development. If Intel had launched its Meteor Lake processor lineup earlier, the console might have hit the market sooner, but it is certainly here to stay for a long time now.
MSI has plans for regular updates to the Claw series, with new console versions being launched every two to three years. Currently, Claw models 2, 3, and 4 are in the preparation process. Details about the specific improvements have not been revealed yet. However, considering that the first Claw console utilizes the Intel Core Ultra processor from the Meteor Lake series, potential options for future devices may include Intel Arrow Lake and Lunar Lake processors. MSI will, however, seek more powerful processors with power consumption ranging from 15 to 30 W for handheld consoles.
The upcoming Panther Lake processors could also be one of the options for future Claw devices. It is expected that Panther Lake will be available sometime in 2025 or 2026, which aligns with the release cycle of a new Claw console series. Although the exact release date has not been announced, it is certain that the MSI Claw will be available in the market later this year.
