Microsoft has announced a significant change to Windows keyboards in nearly 30 years with the addition of an AI key. This new feature aims to facilitate users’ participation in the transformation of artificial intelligence.

Starting this month, many new Windows 11 computers, including upcoming Surface devices, will have a dedicated key called “Copilot.” By pressing this key, users will be able to summon an AI chatbot powered by Bing, which will assist them in various tasks such as summarizing long articles, searching for content on the internet, or adjusting settings on their computer.

One intriguing characteristic is that the AI chatbot can even create songs, catering to users who may not know how to play instruments or sing. This is made possible through collaboration with Suno, an AI music creation tool.

If the Copilot key is unavailable on certain devices or not enabled, pressing the key will instead launch Windows Search.

This novelty will be located near the space bar on the keyboard and will replace the right CTRL key on some computers, while on others, it will replace the menu key.

Microsoft hopes that this new AI key will enhance users’ productivity and empower them in their experience of utilizing artificial intelligence.
