Google Invests $2 Billion in Artificial Intelligence Startups

In recent months, major technology companies have been aggressively investing in artificial intelligence (AI). From Microsoft’s $10 billion investment in OpenAI to Nvidia’s expanding list of investments in the field, corporations have been pouring money into AI startups.

Google, wanting to establish itself as a leading technology giant investing heavily in the development of future AI tools and models, has recently agreed to invest up to $2 billion in the San Francisco-based startup Anthropic, according to the Wall Street Journal. The deal includes an upfront payment of $500 million, with an additional $1.5 billion over time. The valuation of the startup has not been disclosed.

Previously, Google had already invested in Anthropic, including a significant round of $300 million in February, competing with OpenAI.

However, Google has also participated in other major funding rounds in the AI industry in recent months, according to data from Crunchbase.

In August, Google was part of the $155 million Series C funding for the Israeli startup AI21 Labs, which was valued at $1.4 billion. AI21’s platform enables the development of customized business applications based on text and utilizes language AI to read and write in multiple languages.

In the same month, Google also participated in a $200 million funding round for the American startup Hugging Face, which was valued at $4 billion. This startup allows companies to store and use AI software and hosts hundreds of thousands of open AI models that developers can utilize for their AI applications.

In late June, Google also participated in a $141 million Series C funding round for the American startup Runway, which generates images using artificial intelligence.

These are just a few of Google’s investments in AI startups in recent months. There is no doubt that Google has significant ambitions when it comes to AI development, and the numbers in these funding rounds showcase the extent of those ambitions.
