Bing Chat Enterprise: A Powerful Tool for Artificial Intelligence at Carolina

Carolina employees have been granted access to a new artificial intelligence (AI) tool called Bing Chat Enterprise. This tool, approved for use by Carolina University staff, provides a secure alternative to AI generative tools used by the general public, such as ChatGPT, Google Bard, or the public version of Bing Chat.

Bing Chat Enterprise empowers employees to generate content, analyze and compare data, summarize documents, learn new skills, write code, and much more. Professors can personalize learning, plan lessons, brainstorm ideas, provide tutorials, communicate, analyze, and enhance efficiency using Bing Chat Enterprise.

Additionally, Bing Chat offers several advantages over other AI communication services, including built-in image-text generation, as well as additional references and footnotes that facilitate information verification.

Currently, Bing Chat Enterprise is only available to professors and staff at Carolina University. Microsoft has enabled university employees to use this tool at no additional cost; however, it is not included in student licenses. Students who have multiple affiliations, such as working for the university, may have access to Bing Chat Enterprise, depending on their licensing arrangement. Collaboration with Microsoft is underway to understand the possibility of licensing and access for students, with more information expected in the coming months.

To start using Bing Chat Enterprise, Carolina University employees can access it through their web browsers using their university accounts. Microsoft Edge and Chrome browsers are currently supported, with Microsoft Edge being the recommended browser.

It is important to note that Bing Chat Enterprise does not support “strict” SafeSearch settings. Users should adjust their settings to “moderate” or “off” before using the tool.

Whenever using chatbots or generative AI tools, it is crucial to carefully manage the data shared with third parties. As with all information and tools, federal and state privacy regulations and best practices for secure computing should be followed.

Furthermore, it is essential to follow the university’s guidelines for proper and ethical use of AI tools to protect university and personal information. The university has previously established an AI committee and a subcommittee for creating resources for staff. Please utilize these resources for best practices and campus-specific guidelines.
