VMware and Intel have joined forces to simplify AI model development and implementation while prioritizing privacy and compliance. Through the VMware Private AI with Intel collaboration, users of VMware’s virtualization infrastructure can leverage Intel’s existing infrastructure and open-source software to streamline the AI workflow.
During VMware Explore 2023 in Barcelona, the companies announced the development of a validated reference architecture called VMware Private AI with Intel. This architecture combines VMware Cloud Foundation, AI compute capabilities, Intel Xeon CPUs, Max Series GPUs, and AI software to create a powerful AI solution.
Scheduled to launch next month, the reference architecture will be supported by Dell Technologies, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, and Lenovo servers that utilize Intel Xeon CPU and Intel Max Series GPU of the fourth generation. This collaboration between VMware and Intel opens up new opportunities for shared partners.
The VMware Private AI with Intel reference architecture provides an alternative to the previously introduced VMware Private AI Foundation with Nvidia platform. This alternative empowers enterprises to build and deploy AI models on Dell, HPE, and Lenovo servers powered by Nvidia GPUs, DPU, and SmartNIC. Intel aims to challenge Nvidia’s dominant position in AI computing, not only with GPUs but also with CPUs that possess AI acceleration capabilities.
Embracing AI is central to unlocking powerful capabilities and improving lives worldwide. As Intel and VMware take enterprises into this new AI era powered by silicon and software, they are well-equipped to drive businesses forward and increase competition in the semiconductor industry.
“OneAPI”, “Transformer Extensions”, and “PyTorch Extensions” are some of the components comprising Intel’s AI software package. Together, they enable programmers to execute the entire AI pipeline efficiently. VMware Cloud Foundation enhances AI model development and execution by incorporating features like vSAN Express architecture for accelerated functionality such as encryption, vSphere Distributed Resource Scheduler for optimizing hardware utilization, and VMware NSX for micro-segmentation and threat protection.
By leveraging existing infrastructure, businesses can reduce total ownership costs and address environmental sustainability concerns. VMware Private AI with Intel empowers enterprises to adopt AI rapidly while ensuring data privacy and regulatory compliance.
