Among the many interesting concepts showcased at CES 2024, the fact remains that most of these prototypes and demonstrations will never make it to the market. However, if you want to try one of the most intriguing demonstrations from CES 2024, we have found a great one. It’s called WowMouse, and it is an application that turns your WearOS smartwatch into a Bluetooth mouse.
The application is available for immediate download and has just received a major update this week. In general, WowMouse utilizes the existing sensors on your WearOS smartwatch to turn it into an alternative computer mouse. You don’t need any surface to use it, as simply moving your hand in open space will move your cursor. To click, drag, or scroll, you just lightly press your fingers on the same hand where your smartwatch is located, thus controlling the mouse on your external device.
Although it may seem like a cool trick for an afternoon, WowMouse has proven to be quite reliable and useful in live demonstrations. Snazzy Labs has published a video demonstrating its functionality, which you can watch below:
The application was developed by Doublepoint, which claims to enable your WearOS watch to function as a mouse with any Bluetooth device. However, you will need certain WearOS smartwatches to fully utilize WowMouse’s potential. Currently, first and second-generation Pixel Watches are not supported (although work is actively being done on that), and Doublepoint says that the application has been most extensively tested and best adapted for Samsung’s WearOS smartwatches, such as the Galaxy Watch 6, as well as the previous two generations – Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 5.
The gesture used by WowMouse resembles the new Double Tap feature included in Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 smartwatches. However, Apple Double Tap only controls the smartwatch itself, not other external devices. This makes WowMouse a much more versatile solution, and according to all reports, the application has been better at recognizing gestures than Double Tap so far.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. Can I use WowMouse with any WearOS smartwatch?
No, currently the application has limited compatibility with certain WearOS smartwatches, with the first and second-generation Pixel Watches not supported. However, Doublepoint is actively working on expanding compatibility.
2. Can I use WowMouse with non-Bluetooth devices?
No, WowMouse requires a Bluetooth connection to function as a mouse with external devices.
3. Are there any limitations to using WowMouse as a mouse?
WowMouse relies on the sensors of your WearOS smartwatch, so it requires your hand to be in motion for cursor movement. Additionally, some gestures may not be as precise as using a traditional mouse.
4. Can WowMouse be used for presentations?
Yes, using WowMouse during presentations can provide a convenient way to control your computer while moving around during a speech or presentation.
If WowMouse seems interesting to you, download it now, give it a try, and let us know in the comments below or on social media how it performed for you.
